Where's My Nationality: Exhibition
Are you aware of the right to nationality? This may be a thing that most of us have taken for granted. Yet, there is a group of people called Rohingya, they are described as “among the world’s least wanted” and “one of the world’s most persecuted minorities”.
We all have a country to call home. We enjoy all kinds of services provided by the government as well as rights protected by the law. But imagine, if we lose our identity of belonging to any nations, the social benefits or even basic human rights would no longer be protected by anybody. Nationality entitles us legal protection of rights and those without nationality are “stateless”.
Rohingyas are the most persecuted stateless people in the world. They live around the border of Burma and Bangladesh. Due to various political and cultural reasons, they are left unwanted by any states. They face terrible plights. They have little hope in redeeming their lives. The feeling of rejection and desperation to seek a place to belong to is beyond our wildest imagination. Yet the Rohingyas have to cope with the difficult situation every day…
