Police Brutality Exhibition: “Hands Up and Shoot: License to Brutalize?”

警權過大?—濫用警權與人權問題展覽

Police brutality is a persisting issue that has been a topic of hot debate as of the recent years. As a clear violation to human rights, in cases of police brutality, police officers often use violent and excessive force to overwhelm a suspect who has yet to be proven of their guilt. Nevertheless, despite violating a myriad of Articles on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, many of the said officers are able to escape due punishment. It is a crucial understanding that every human should have the right to due process and to equality before the law. Thus, the aforementioned police have an obligation to respect the human rights of all individuals regardless of ethnicity, status or gender.

By following past cases of police brutality in other countries such as the United States, the issue of police brutality and its implications on human rights and the society was discussed via an exhibition hosted by WUS.

Our theme was wealth disparity, specifically in Peru where the issue has led to an erection of a physical wall between the rich and poor. Learn more about the Peruvian culture and segregation between social classes through immersive games such as the Life Monopoly, the Protest Game, and finally--the Detective Game.

"Where Does Catalonia Belong?" Exchange Trip to Spain

加泰羅尼亞的歸宿:西班牙交流團

WUS hosted an exchange trip to the vibrant cities of Barcelona and Madrid in Spain, with a strong focus on the issue of Catalan independence.
Since the Spanish transition to democracy, Catalonia has become one of the most economically dynamic communities in Spain, triggering a Catalan march for independence in 2012 with over 1.5 million citizens calling for the election of a new parliament that would practice Catalonia’s right of self-determination. Subsequent calls for Catalan independence cites the unwanted liability of supporting poorer Spanish regions, creating humanitarian controversy and debates.

Destination: Spain (Barcelona & Madrid)
Fee: $17,000 (Flight ticket, airport tax and fuel surcharge, transportation, accommodation, tour guide and entrance fees)
