"Where Does Catalonia Belong?" Exchange Trip to Spain
加泰羅尼亞的歸宿:西班牙交流團
Dear all,
Looking for a place out of the ordinary to celebrate the coming of 2017? Join WUS on an eye-opening journey to Spain!
This coming January, WUS is hosting an exchange trip to the vibrant cities of Barcelona and Madrid in Spain, with a strong focus on the issue of Catalan independence. Since the Spanish transition to democracy, Catalonia has become one of the most economically dynamic communities in Spain, triggering a Catalan march for independence in 2012 with over 1.5 million citizens calling for the election of a new parliament that would practice Catalonia’s right of self-determination. Subsequent calls for Catalan independence cites the unwanted liability of supporting poorer Spanish regions, creating humanitarian controversy and debates.
During this trip, WUS aims to explore the notion of self-determination by understanding the vibrant historic and social background of Spain, and how it differs from the unique language, laws and customs of Catalonia.
Exchanges and visits to NGOs, universities, museums and cultural sites will be made (examples below):
I. Museo d’Historia de Catalunya
II. Royal Palace of Madrid
III. The Autonomous University of Madrid
IV. Gastronomy Workshop
